Using a stand-up paddleboard (SUP) is definitely a great form of exercise, although the ways in which a typical board can be paddled are somewhat limited. The Supski is different, in that it offers multiple paddling styles to work multiple muscle groups.
Invented by Texas-based entrepreneur Guy Chaifetz, the Supski setup consists of a fairly normal-looking inflatable SUP, along with a paddling kit which the user installs and removes via Velcro connectors. That kit includes adjustable-length poles that have rotating hand grips on one end, and that are joined to rotating paddles via a universal joint on the other. Those paddles are in turn mounted on rails, so they can independently slide lengthwise along either side of the SUP deck.
This arrangement allows the user to propel the board in a number of ways, such as by rowing it while sitting or kneeling – facing forward or backward – or by standing up and pushing back with the poles like a cross-country skier. Additionally, the paddles can be pushed/pulled together in unison, or in an alternating left/right pattern.

And yes, the system does also come with a regular SUP paddle, for traditional stand-up paddling. The kit reportedly can be retrofitted onto existing third-party boards, although some modifications will be required – users are advised to check first with a paddleboard or surfboard specialist.

Assuming it reaches production, a pledge of US$669 will get you a complete setup that includes a 10.5-ft (3.2-m) board – the planned retail price is $899. Currently raising production funds on Indiegogo, the Rolley+ rocks an aerospace-grade aluminum alloy chassis coupled with a carbon-reinforced polymer body, features a single padded seat above the rear fender, and rides on custom 200/30-11 Kenda tires.
A 750-W geared hub motor produces 80 Nm (59 lb.ft) of torque and zips the e-scoot up to an electronically limited top speed of 20 mph (32 km/h), while a 750-Wh removable battery is reckoned good for up to 30 miles (48 km) of per-charge range, with a full recharge taking around three hours. Stopping power comes from disc braking front and back, and the adaptive headlight will automatically come on when needed.

Scooterson has cooked in some AI smarts that can automatically make acceleration adjustments as you motor along, give you suggestions on how to get the best from your ride, and more. A companion mobile app running on a smartphone clamped to the handlebar serves as a virtual scooter dash, connecting to the Rolley+ over Bluetooth or LTE, and can be used to dial in four levels of motor assist.

The e-scooter is unlocked using the phone/app combo as a wireless key, or via facial recognition. Front and rear lighting can be turned on or off through the app too, the rider can receive notifications when the battery is getting low, or if someone tampers with or tries to make off with their ride, there’s a Find My Scooter feature that shows the location of your e-scoot on a map, and the Rolley+ can even be shared with authorized family and friends.
Scooterson says that the development and prototyping stages have now been completed, and a short manufacturing run has already taken place. Indiegogo pledges for the first mass production units start at US$2,390 and, if all goes to plan, shipping to backers is estimated to start in May 2022. The video below has more.

Four years ago we told you about the TreePod Camper, a fully-enclosed tent that hangs from a tree like a Christmas ornament. The Colorado-based TreePod company is now offering an open-sided alternative, in the form of the Canopy.
Whereas the Camper featured solid fabric walls, a rectangular footprint, and stabilizing cords that ran from each corner to a stake in the ground, the Canopy has five large openings, it’s round, and it’s free to spin – but hopefully not too fast. The company describes it as a cabana/hammock hybrid.

Users start by attaching an included hanging rope to the top of the limp Canopy, then looping that rope over a sturdy tree branch (or other “hanging spot”) and pulling the Canopy up to the desired height. They then insert an included set of tent-style steel tensioning poles into the Canopy’s UV-resistant canvas body, zip a disc-shaped canvas base onto the bottom of that body,

The fully assembled Canopy can subsequently support a total load of up to 500 lb (227 kg) – although the same may not be true for whatever it’s hanging from – protecting its occupants from the sun while still allowing them to enjoy the breeze. According to TreePod, the entire setup process takes only about five minutes.

The Treepod Canopy is currently the subject of a Kickstarter campaign, where it’s being offered in large and small models – both are 6 feet tall (1.8 m), with the former having a base diameter of 7.5 ft (2.3 m) and the latter coming in at 6 feet. Assuming they reach production, a pledge of US$375 will get you a large, and $255 will get you a small.

They’re available in four canvas colors, with optional extras including inflatable mattresses, bug netting for the openings, a ground anchor, and a metal stand to take the place of a tree.

We typically associate Canadian tiny house builder Minimaliste with spacious homes that can withstand extremes in hot and cold weather. With the Nomad, the firm has retained the same hardy four-season tiny house design, but it’s offered in a smaller and easier-to-tow model.

The Nomad measures 24 ft (7.3 m) in length, which is much smaller than other recent models by the firm, like the Noyer XL V2, for example, which had a total length of 37 ft (11.2 m). It’s based on a double-axle trailer and is finished in low-maintenance vertical steel sheets and faux wood steel.

Access to the home is gained by a motorized folding deck and glass sliding doors. The interior is arranged on one floor and has a total floorspace of just 165 sq ft (roughly 15 sq m), underlining that Minimaliste considers this model best suited for short-term use, such as for vacations or as a guest house, for example. It features a modern decor that’s simple and not too fussy in the small space.

Visitors enter into the kitchen, which includes a dining/lounge area that seats up to four people. The bench seating also has integrated storage space and can be transformed into a small bed with help from the dining table, which can sleep two children or one adult. Elsewhere, the kitchen features a fridge/freezer, propane-powered stove, an oven, a microwave, a washer/dryer, and a double sink. Nearby is the bathroom, which has a toilet (flushing and composting models are available), a sink, and a shower.

There’s just one bedroom in the Nomad. With a ceiling height of 7 ft (2.1 m), so it has plenty of headroom to stand upright and includes a storage-integrated queen-sized bed and cabinetry, as well as an optional seat that’s suspended from the ceiling.

The Nomad is capable of running off-the-grid and contains two water tanks for black and greywater, as well as a tank for storing fresh water. Additionally it has an optional solar package that comes in 5.12-kWh and 10.24-kWh versions, combined with a battery array. A mini-split air-conditioning system helps keep it a comfortable temperature and good insulation and a high level of airtightness ensures it performs well in the heat and cold.

The Nomad starts at CAD 85,400 (roughly US$67,000).
